This type of dentistry is used for patients with dental anxiety, anxiety disorders, and other issues that make it difficult for them to be fully comfortable while receiving treatment from a dentist. Conscious sedation is a type of sedation in which the sedated individual can respond to verbal directions, but he or she feels little to no pain, and has an altered level of consciousness. After conscious sedation, the patient may feel drowsy and not remember much about the procedure. This level of sedation is used for dental procedures in which it is necessary for the patient to be responsive, and also for minor procedures which do not merit the use of general anesthesia, and for procedures involving patients who cannot cooperate with care providers. Conscious sedation dentistry is also offered to young children who may have trouble complying with requests from the dentist and the staff, and to adults who experience significant anxiety about dental appointments. Conscious sedation lets the patient recover quickly and return to their everyday activities soon after the procedure.

Prolonged Thumb Sucking In Infants May Lead To Speech Impediments

Using a pacifier for too long may be detrimental to your child's speech. Research published in the open access journal BMC Pediatrics suggests that the use of bottles, pacifiers and other sucking behaviors apart from breast-feeding may increase the risk of subsequent speech disorders in young children.

"These results suggest extended use of sucking outside of breast-feeding may have detrimental effects on speech development in young children,". This finding is particularly relevant, as use of bottles and pacifiers has increased dramatically over the last few decades.
